Can you hold this for me? I’ll buy this as soon as I get my next paycheck.
This is a phrase that Poshmark sellers will likely come across at some point. Advanced sellers probably hear it often.
So, should you hold the items?
This depends on the seller and the situation. While some sellers stick to never holding, some base it on the situation. Then the question becomes when is it acceptable to hold an item, and when should you avoid it at all costs?
When should you hold an item on Poshmark?
If the person seems genuine, I will offer them a 24-hour hold. If they do not respond to this offer, do not hold. If someone is seriously wanting to buy the item, they will respond to you.
If I have a repeat customer, who has shown trustworthiness through purchases and ratings, I will sometimes hold for a few extra days. The most common scenario is someone asking me to hold an item until payday. I’ll take note of their payday and hold it until that day, but no longer.
While some sellers say they will never hold, I think this is a great way to build some loyalty with your followers and show them that you are an understanding and kind seller. People will likely appreciate this, give you a good rating, and come back to you. They may even write a love note after a purchase!
When should you not hold an item?
There are a few rules that I stick to when deciding if I should hold an item or not.
1. If they do not respond to my initial 24-hour hold offer
2. First-time buyers asking for longer than 24-hours
Like I said earlier, this changes from seller to seller. If your closet is booming consistently, or you aren’t in any rush to sell items, maybe the ‘no hold ever’ rule will work for you!
How do you hold an item on Poshmark?
Unfortunately, Poshmark does not have a way to hold items. You will have to do this manually. This may be a reason top sellers don’t often hold items, it takes time. If you decide that you want to hold, follow these steps to ensure nobody buys up the item during the hold.
1. Edit listing
2. Add (On Hold) or (Reserve) to the listing’s title
3. Save
If someone ignores or doesn’t see the (On Hold)/(Reserve) in the title….
2. Comment on the buyers ‘About the Seller’ page (or any listing if it’s too far down to be found) that the item they purchased was on hold
This is the reason I typically won’t hold longer than 24-hours. Canceling orders does not look great for buyers.
Happy selling!
Remember the decision to hold should be handled on a case by case basis, unless sticking to a strict no hold policy.
Everything discussed today is what I personal do. There is no hard and fast rule in this situation, find what works for you.
