One day in your journey selling items on Poshmark, you may have a buyer open a case against you for a return. This can happen for a multitude of reasons, luckily, Poshmark has specific rules in regards to when something can be returned.
Let’s first go over the process of what to do when this happens, then we’ll go over some ways to avoid a case being opened against you.
When a buyer reports a problem with their order, Poshmark ask them to submit supporting
documentation including photos and a description of the issue. Poshmark’s team then reviews the photos and description listed before coming to a decision. Poshmark will also ask you to submit some information.
This information includes:
Your listing
- This includes photos, description, and all communication between buyer and seller.
Your comments on the case
- Remember to be honest and professional.
Other relevant documentation that may help your case
After reviewing all documentation, both the buyer and seller will be notified via email of the resolution.
If Poshmark sides with the buyer, you’ll get your item back. Don’t let one return case discourage you. At some point, most sellers will have a case opened against them.
How to Avoid a Return Against You
1. List Measurements
The most common reason people try to return items is because the item doesn’t fit as well as they thought. Poshmark’s stance on this issue is that you cannot return an item because of fit issues. This can lead to people claiming the item was smaller or larger than pictured. To avoid this, always list item’s measurements. It’s unlikely Poshmark will accept someone’s return request because of fit issue, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. List your item’s measurements.
2. Take Clear and High-Quality Pictures
Make sure to take clear and quality photos so the buyer knows exactly what the item looks like. Nothing should be left to the imagination. I suggest investing or creating a space that looks fun and professional to display your clothing. Make sure this space has plenty of natural light or invest in a nice ring light/lighting system that works for you. Since I use my Poshmark as a business, I felt it was necessary to invest in a high-quality ring light from Amazon.
3. Brand Authentication
Whenever possible prove that the item is the brand it’s listed as. If you still have tags or packaging for the item that proves it’s brand, take pictures of that. Get close up pictures of brand logos. Include close up pictures of the clothing label on the inside of the clothes, that’s great information for the buyer to see before purchase.
4. Document Any and Every Flaw
You’d be surprised that people will notice flaws you didn’t even notice. Examine every item carefully for stains, snags, bobbles, tears, ect. Take clear photos of these flaws and describe them in the description, that way there is no debating if the flaw was addressed. If the item has no major stain or flaw, just gently used, make note of that in the description. If you can prove the flaw was addressed, they case will be dismissed.
5. Be Honest
This one is a no brainer, but people have tried hiding flaws. It’s not worth hurting your Posh reputation. Take pictures and address every flaw in the description.
If you follow the tips I talked about today, hopefully you will never have to go through this. If you do, remain calm, and follow the process we discussed above.
We mentioned you should always make sure to take clear quality photos of your items. Check out this blog for more information on how to edit your Poshmark photos:
