What you Need to get Started on Poshmark

In the U.S.A alone, about 21 billion pounds of clothes ends up in the landfills each year. When I first heard this statistic, I was horrified.

If you’re wondering what to do about the clothes you’ve been considering tossing, I'll be explaining exactly what you need to get started on a website where you can re-home your gently used items, Poshmark.

In my opinion, Poshmark is the number one resale site for your gently used clothes. I casually use Mercari, eBay, and the Facebook Market, I’ve even done reviews of those sites, but nothing compares to Poshmark. Click on the words Mercari, eBay, and Facebook Market for the reviews.

The level of ease and convenience Poshmark provides, is why I’ve centered my business around selling on Poshmark.

If you’ve been wondering what you need to get started selling on Poshmark, chances are you already have everything you need. Below is a list of the things you must have to start on Poshmark. If you don't have boxes, I’ll be sharing a resource that will allow you to get free boxes and packages.

Things you need

  • Phone or computer

  • A way to print

  • Scissors and shipping tape

  • Boxes

Poshmark is an online selling platform, so you will need a way to access either the mobile app or the website on a computer. When you make a sale, you will be emailed a prepaid shipping label. You will need a way to print this out.

Once you print out the prepaid shipping label, cut it out and tape it to a box. Make sure you purchase shipping tape to secure your items.

You will need shipping supplies, but USPS provides free priority boxes and packages. Take advantage of this service so you don’t have to spend any extra money.

Extra Supplies

There are a few other supplies you can get to increase your sales and ensure you get five star ratings every time.

  • Ribbon

  • Tissue paper

  • Thank you cards

  • Free editing apps

  • Lighting

These are extras that will enhance your listings. They aren’t required but may be worth investing in if you plan on continuing selling. One thing I love doing is wrapping the sold clothes in nice tissue paper and tying it off with some fun ribbon.

While it is required to leave your buyer a nice thank you note, you don’t need to buy pre-made thank you cards. Regular paper works fine.

Editing apps are free, so I recommend taking advantage of them, even if you’re casually selling. I’ve wrote an informative blog explaining my exact editing process and apps that have helped my reselling business.

If you're items are are more than gently used, you may have a hard time selling them on Poshmark. This is a resale site for gently used items.

If it’s too used to sell, donate.

It’s a no brainer, but it’s easier to throw old items in the trash bin that’s right outside your door rather than take them to a donating center.

I can’t speak for every Goodwill, but the one near me couldn’t make it easier to donate. I drove up to the drive through center on the side of the building, put my items in a large white bucket that they changed when it filled up, and drove away.

Easy as that.

Check out the Goodwill in your town or other donation stores.

Poshmark is the first choice is items are still in decent shape. This allows for the item to be re-homed and re-loved. You’ll also get a bit of your investment back. If it’s too used, remember to donate. We can do our part in reducing the 21 billion clothes that end up in our landfills.
